A Bold Adventure is the largest expansion project in the Abilene Zoo’s history. This transformational, multi-phase initiative will enhance animal habitats, introduce new species, create immersive guest experiences, and expand opportunities for conservation, education, and recreation.
Phase One: Wild Encounters and Ferocious Eats is expected to be completed in late summer 2027. This phase will transform the zoo’s Africa region with expanded habitats, new species, immersive wildlife experiences, a two-story café, and new gathering spaces for the community.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the next phases!
The Abilene Zoo is a nonprofit organization that opened in 1966 in Grover Nelson. It is one of West Texas’ premier attractions, welcoming thousands of guests each year. Home to more than 1,000 animals representing over 250 species, the zoo is dedicated to conservation, education, animal care, and creating unforgettable experiences for families and visitors of all ages.
